Can a router w/ print server work as a plain print server?

A friend has a wireless network set up at home using a wireless router. He
wants to add a printer to his network using a wireless print server.
Wireless print servers seem to go for about $80-120, but you can get a
wireless router with a built-in a print server for much less, for about
$40-50. Can you set up a wireless router w/ print server as a plain print
server?

Potentially yes, but the device designed specifically as a print
server may be able to serve a wider variety of printers.

The built in print server on a wireless router might not be useful
for anything other than Postscript or HPLC3 compatable printers
with ethernet interfaces. A device designed specifically as a print
server may be able to handle some models of USB printers and
some models of printers that do not use Postscript or HPLC3.
