My linksys router only has a cable/dsl input connector. Is there a
way I can force it to use the internet connection (assuming I manually
dial-up and connect to the internet beforehand)?

You probably could, with some messing about[1], but why not just get a
cheap switch?

[1] Either by manipulating the routing table, or by running routing
software on the PC with a modem and connecting that to the WAN side.

I have a 4 port SMC Barricade that can do this as it has a com port
attached for an external modem. It also has a printer port and can
connect to Cable, DSL and ISDN, PSTN.

Mine is SMC7004ABR-UK

I've not seen one with an internal 56kb modem.

I got mine a few years ago so they are probably knocking around
secondhand very cheap now.

there is one on ebay at the moment but it is overpriced.

Network modems are still available but beware get it wrong you can very
easily end up with a massive phone bill.
