Can Ping Only One Way

I have a local domain withWinServer2003 R2 and 3 PCs on the network. One of
the PCs is giving me a big problem. From this PC I can ping the server and
the other clients. But from the server and the other clients I can't ping
the problem PC or share files and printers. From the problem PC I can ping
127.0.0.1 OK but can't ping it's IP address. ipconfig looks OK. The clients
are connected using WiFi, but I even connected the problem unit with CAT5
and had the same problem. What could be going wrong? Any thoughts much
appreciated.

The only thing I can think of that would cause this is a firewall on the
problem PC. It allows return traffic to connections it has initiated, but
does not allow unsolicited incoming traffic.

Why don't you post the "ipconfig /all" output of the problem pc and the
servers. And post the "route print" output of both as well.

The firewall is turned off, i.e. (WinXP), but I wonder if the antivirus
software could be doing something. I also wonder if something could be wrong
with the DNS. route print is a good idea. I'm not at the site now so can't
supply. ipconfig. Thank you.

The reason I say it can only be a firewall if that if you can ping one way
then that proves the communication as each machine has a valid path. Are
you sure the AV doesn't have a built in firewall? Trend OfficeScan and SAV
both have firewall capability.

Jeremy, you were correct. The Symantec firewall was enabled by default. As
soon as I disabled it, I was abled to ping itself and from the other PCs,
and share files and printers.
Thank you for reminding me.

I'm glad it was that easy in the end.
