Can ping but not access each other.

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me out.
I had 2 PC's both with XP pro connected via a Vigor 2600 and everything was
fine. Full sharing, internet etc. I have added a 3rd PC with XP pro and the
network has collapsed.

The PC's can all still access the internet and can ping each and can see
each other in "View WorkGroup Computers" but when I try and access one of
the PC's I get the error "XXXX is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource....... The network path was not
found"

I have enabled full sharing on all of them.

The PC's have the following configurations
IP Address
PC1 192.168.1.10
PC2 192.168.1.11
PC3 192.168.1.12
Default gateway & DHCP Server is
192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask is
255.255.0.0

They all have the same Workgroup name.
I think the problem came about when I was installing the operating system on
PC3, it asked me all sorts of network questions which I'm sure I wasn't
asked when installing the OS on the other PC's.

Or do I have to change something on the router, which I would doubt as I
never had to change anything when it was just the 2 PC's networked.

Cheers

Steven.

is there a common user on each machine with the same password, or
group access enabled on all machines. The security may be keeping you
out.

No, I made sure all 3 of them had no firewall activated.

Hi Phil, my daughter set her PC (pc2) up as having to sign in as windows
starts just last week so my PC (pc1) obviously couldn't get access to it,
which was no problem, but up until she done that everything was ok. So I
thought it would just be a case of plugging pc3 in and it would get access
to pc1 no bother.

So to answer your question pc2 is password protected with only one user, but
I'm not interested in having access to that just now.
Pc1 & 3 don't have any users so no passwords.

Steven.

Sorted. I forgot I put Zone Alarm on my PC and had it running silently in
the background. Thanks Dave and Phil for taking the time for suggestions.

Steven.

they must have a default user, shirley ? its just you're not being
asked for passwords and there is only one user I guess.
type 'net user' from a cmd prompt to see and check there's a common
entry on both machines you wish to connect.

try these:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...e_ffs_ypuh.asp
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/.../11trouble.htm

enabling Guest access may be required, also check on your network
conneciton icons Proprties/TCPIP/Advanced/WINS and check "Enable
NetBIOS over TCP/IP" at the bottom on each machine.
