I am dealing with a 3 site (Subnetted) WAN network running Windows 2003 AD.
In the past the Network Neighborhood has show all PC's and servers on the
network. Recently we seemed to have lost one site PC’s and servers from the
Network.
Mapped Connections still work, we can attach by IP address, E-mail is fine,
Printing is fine, NSLookup resolves Servers fine. But we can not surf to a
network shares unless we were to directly name the server share. WINS is
running at both the main sites and the “disappearing site. WINS replication
is happening without errors. We have purged and restarted all WINS servers.
No change. We haved flushed all DNS servers and restarted the services. No
change.
The main PDC is the master browser and the other 2 DC's are back up browsers.
Symantec Corporate Antivirus is used on all stations and servers does not
have a personal firewall in effect. Both Windows XP, Windows 2000 pro and
Windows Server 2003 are randomly effect but mainly at this one site (subnet).

Any suggested next steps to find out what the issue is or how to correct??

Thank you for any assistance,

Mark E. Crouse

The standard tool for troubleshooting browser problems is the browstat
utility from the system tools. There is a troubleshooting guide in KB188305.

Directly accessing a share with a UNC using Win2000/2003/XP/Vista uses
DirectSMB (port 445), and not neccessarily NetBIOS (port 135).

Were there any changes with the routers connecting that one site such as an
MTU change, or a firewall rule change?

Anything in the event viewer of the DC at that site or anywhere else related
to browsing?

Also try browstat as Bill suggested.
