Ran across an issue today with a Virtual Server...for some reason it could
not see the Domain Controller, even though I could ping in both directions
using NETBIOS names and IP addresses. So I joined "WORKGROUP" and then tried
re-joining using FQDN...nothing. HOWEVER...I was able to join it back using
the NETBIOS name only. Any ideas as to a) the initial cause and b) why the
FQDN will not work?

Regards,

Matthew

Hello Matthew,

Are all the machines virtual? Please give some more infos about the environment.
Sounds for me like an DNS configuration problem. How is DNS setup in the
network?

Best regards

The two machines in question are both virtual...an "APP" server and a "DC"
server. On a completely different host machine, we have an "APP2" server on
the same domain that was logging in w/o issue.

I'm relatively new to the company, so I can't speak with great knowledge to
DNS...I know that we host our own, however.

1. Any errors when run nslookup command?
2. Posting the results of DNS server and one of client ipconfig /all here
may help.
