I have a Windows 2003 server running AD, DNS and DHCP, my clients are XP pro.
One of my clients (orlando) logs on to the network and gets ip address
10.110.1.163.
From my client I try to ping orlando and it resolves to 10.110.1.134, I try
to ping from the server itself and it resolves to 10.110.1.134. When I look
at the dhcp leases 10.110.1.163 is assigned to orlando and 10.110.1.134 is
not assigned. I've tried to flush my dns, the server reboots every night and
I've checked the host files, nothing is hard coded to point orlano to
10.110.1.134, so why can't the server resolve orlando to the correct IP?

I just had a similar case last week. I would check the DNS and WINS records first. This case may help,

Solved: Still ping removed hostname
Problem: We have removed a server name vista from the domain and rejoined it as tmvista using the same IP address....
