I am creating (new install) a small network (Windows Server 2003 SBS with SP1)
.. One server and 8 workstations (Win XP Pro with SP2).

Problem is: I can not ping the server from the any of the workstations. I
CAN ping all of the workstations from the server. I've tried everything I
can thionk of (I'm a self-taught power user, but not a network guru).

The DHCP server is on the router at 192.168.1.1 - I've tried starting the
DHCP server on the SBS with no luck.

I've been working on this for days. I need help ...

Make sure not NAT and Firewall blocking the ping. Also why does the IP routing is enabled?

Try:

On the XP machine right click My Computer and select Properties. Click the
Computer Name tab - Change button - More button. The Primary DNS suffix
should be lcm.local not LCM.

Looks to me like your MS DNS server is also misconfigured. The ISP's DNS
should not be listed by a ipconfig which tells me you added a host/ptr record
for the ISP dns server. Remove that entry and put it in the Forwarders Tab.
If you start having issues with workstation/server name resolution consider
taking the isp dns server out of the dns list for the workstations.

MS dns works with a wkst making a request of the MSdns server. MSdns will
forward to the isps dns if it can't resolve [like www.google.com]. It will
then pass the response back to the wkst.

Do you have two nics in the server? Did you engage RRAS? Otherwise not
sure why you have routing engaged on the server.
