We moved our file server to a different server. The names and ip addresses
are the same and I have 250 users who did not notice the difference. I have
one laptop that can not map the drives. The user can log on to the network,
ping the server, connect to terminal services, but it will not map drives.
Once logged on, the computer gives the "You are no longer connected to
'SERVER'" message. I have logged this user on to a different laptop and to a
terminal services session and the drives map correctly. I have removed the
computer from the domain and re-added it. I have checked the event logs on
the file server, the DC's, and the laptop itself to no avail. I am truly at
a loss. The drives are mapped by script and by persistent mapping from
explorer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Run the netdiag support tool also looking for any errors/warnings/failed
tests. It may also help to try booting into safe mode with networking in
case a startup application is interfering. Use ipconfig /all to verify that
it is configured correctly compared to other domain computers in regards to
correct IP network/subnet mask/dns/wins servers. For Windows 2000/XP Pro
make sure that there are NOT any ISP dns servers configured as preferred dns
servers. Try to ping domain controllers and file server by name and IP
address and also check hosts and lmhosts files for any bad entries.
Nslookup should also be able to resolve domain controllers and file server
to correct IP address from that computer. --- Steve
