What exact error message do you receive when attempting
to logon to the domain?

Okay but if the server is a member server and the
domain is chosen in the domain field, that account
doesn't have local administrative privileges.

Limited or no connectivity, server not assigning network address to the
computer. can connect to my network at home. have reinstalled the driver for
network card.
Network Connection Details
Physical address xx-xx- this vavle is not the same on the server
ip address 169.xx
on the server I check what my computer leased ip address is, it showed
ip address 192.168.0.49
physical address of 00-00- this is what is not the same.

Okay the XP machine is not finding your DHCP server
instead it's using AutoIPconfig. Open a dos prompt
and run ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew. What
error do you see?

I have found out today that the M.A.C. Or physical address of my laptop was
causing the problem with the logon on to the domain. With them not being the
same. So I deleted the reserviced IP lease for my laptop on the DHCP server &
rebooted it & my laptop. then it ansigned me an new ip address now things are
fine. I did not know for sure if that was the problem or not but was running
out of things to try. I hope that this this posting may be helpful to someone
down the road. Cause I have found it to be helpful to me. And to answer your
? I tryed to run ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew no help or I could
not ping the server. There was no error message it just said that windows
could not repair my connection, contact your isp or network administrator.
Thanks.

Do you mean reserved IP lease? The machine wasn't getting
a tcp/ip address from your DHCP server so machine wasn't
connected to your network.
