I can not get my router to work!

I was at my friends house last night and they are trying
to connect ther computers together using a microsoft
router. when i was instaling the router i got to the point
where it is seting up the router and a error measage came
up on the screen it said iether turn off all fire walls or
rest the router. well i rest the router and that did not
work so i did that a couple more times it still did not
work. then i shut down all the runing programes that i
knew would not effect the computer. i was wondering if
some one could tell me what programes to shut down. or how
to fix the problem. oh by the way i am using windows xp if
that helps. thanks for any one helping

Uninstall ZoneAlarm, Noron, Symantec firewalls (disabling
them is not enough). Also turn off the WIndows built-in
firewall (ICF).

You cvan also setup manually by going to
http://192.168.2.1 and using password admin
