Windows 2003 Server SP1 with all updated installed. No firewall or antivirus
installed. Locally no problem connecting to port 25. But can not connect
from any host on the network. Telnet server 25, returns "...Could not open
connection to host,..".

I have tried reinstalling SMTP and a lot more. You can ping the server and
connect to other ports but not port 25.

Thanks for you help in adavance.

Are you connecting (TELNETing) to the server's IP address, or to a
NetBIOS name, or to a DNS name? If either of the latter two, you may
have a name resolution issue.

Also, is your SMTP server configured to respond only to certain IP
addresses?

Yours,
Brad

Even with the IP address I can not connect to the SMTP port. I made sure
there are no SMTP restrictions.

Thanks.

do a NETSTAT -NA and check on what IP address SMTP is listening on.

NETSTAT does show the servers IP address.

In news:442836F6-790F-4CD6-BA22-(E-Mail Removed),
Shawn <(E-Mail Removed)> stated, which I commented on below:
> NETSTAT does show the servers IP address.

Do the other hosts on the network have a personal firewall installed?

Was Zone Alarm installed at any time and then removed (on the server or the
other workstations/servers on the network)?

Is this an Exchange server or just the SMTP service under IIS? If Exchange,
is there an SPAM utility on it? Any restrictions in the SMTP service
properties, under the "Access" tab?

Has IPSec been configured on this machine (either locally or thru a GPO)?

Have you installed and ran the SCW (Security Configuration Wizard) on this
machine or ran URL scan?

Anything you can think of will help...
