can not connect to INTERNET

I am trying to hook my 2 Dell computers to a home network
using a Toshiba pcx2200 cable modem and the Microsoft MN
router. Whenever I run the set up It says there is not a
connection. I have a connection with just the modem, but
when I add the router there is no connection. I received
a message that said it can not renew the IP address. Does
anyone have any suggestions? Thank you
