how can lan network connect to live server

Hi
I am a bit confused on certain aspects towards networking, internet,
and ethernet cards. i just cant seem to get the blocks in the right
place.

the problem is,
we have a network which is a private network ie. LAN
a ROUTER
a LIVE SYSTEM given a GLOBAL IP, (ie. can be accessed from anywhere)

the lan is eventually connected to the router the central point for
accessing the outside internet.
the LIVE SERVER has a complete different IP from that of our LAN and
has only one ethernet card connected to the ROUTER which is in the
Internet world (since its a LIVE server)

but we are able to connect to this system from our LAN.
how is this possible??

Not really the correct group as your post has nothing to do with Linux
at all! For a tutorial on networking concepts you can use google. You
