Can this even be done...

Here's what I am looking to do...

I have 1 machine that is a dedicated Web/FTP Server. What I was
thinking of trying, was to put a 2nd machine as a "redundant" server.
So if the 1st one failed, the 2nd one would automatically kick in, and
assume the downed ones IP address.

Can this be done with just 2 machines, Windows 2k3 Server, and a DSL
Modem?

I think so, because this is a typical two node cluster :-)

Hey Martin...

So then basically, just have to install a "Cluster" then, correct!?
Now do I need a seperate Cluster server, or can I install the main
webserver as a custer!?

There are several possibilities of cluster methods builtin Windows Server
2003. Reviewing your question I think that you want to build a simple file
server cluster.

I do not know if you run the Web, Standard or the Enterprise Edition. I
think you need at least Standard Edition for this to work, but this can be
an error.

I know how to do this in a virtual environment with VmWare 5.1.1, but I do
no really know if this applies to a real system as well, so please read the
FAQ ...

Do not use clustering IIS use Network Load Balancing no special hardware.
