I know that bb is faster, webpages download quicker etc - but are
there things I can do with bb that were not possible or not viable
with a dial-up connection?
Is it posible to watch TV from abroad? If so how do I do that?
Download and watch videos? How, from where?
What other exciting possibilities does the internet have in store for
me now that bb is just a few days away?

www.shoutcast.com is worth a visit if you're a music fan.

It's handy for downloading MP3s, etc. You can practially stream them!

The only things you couldn't do with dialup is streaming video.
Everything else you can do on dialup but it takes forever and ties up
your phone line...

For an example of streaming stuff, see http://www.bbc.co.uk/broadband.
For example have a look at today's weather forecast!

Cheers

In the past I've watched free films from CinemaNow.com (I used a USA ISP
on dial-up to get an account, as it checked the IP address and rejected
the request when I used a UK ISP, but once registered, allowed me to see
the films). www.radio-directory.com will give you links to radio with
high quality (I've used some at 384k) streaming.

I've seen a few TV-related sites but not bothered to note them down. I
just spotted a site <http://internettvstation.com/> which claims millions
of music tracks, a load of films and (US) TV shows. Might look out for
some comments about them and whether it is a useful service or not...
for $24 a year, it'd use up a portion of some Ebay sale, so not a
massive sum to worry about :-) Peter M

Try the LIVE TV section at www.lyngsat.com or http://www.broadcast-live.com/
If you're an Aussie you might like Banana TV http://www.bananatv.com/ or
http://www.rootv.com.au/

Well, there is peer-peer.
Various networks of people sharing porn, music, TV series, warez, ...
It can be handy for stuff like downloading an episode of a series
you've missed, ...

TV quality is rather poor, even at the full 512K/second of the base offering.
To get to VCD quality, you need at least 1Mb.
2Mb will get you more or less broadcast quality TV, if you don't look
too closely.
Plus, few places actually offer it.

Usenet is another place where lots of copyright infringment happens, which
is where you download messages from a server (news.plus.net for example) and
assemble them into files.

There are many free webcams out there to provide you with stuff to look at.
You can even setup your own webcam to show the world your garden/bathroom,
live 24/7.

Nope, just the random gibberings of the voices in my head.

Hi,

I can't say I've really used mine to it's full capacity I've just enjoyed a far more
rewarding web experience in that sites load faster and any audio or video content is very
quick to load. At the current BT speed of 500 it's still far too slow for high quality
full screen streaming of video/TV but it's ideal for near CD quality live radio. All the
BBC stations sound great live and the Listen Again feature for missed shows is also very
good. You will really notice a difference on any big downloads you do, either of video
demos or mp3 tracks. All in all just a better experience!

here are the links I've gathered over the last year or so :-
