Hi everyone
My windows 2000 server is serving as a domain controller. When I install the
active directory, Windows also setup the DNS server and WINS server. I want
to share the Internet connecttion with the hosts by using NAT.
After the NAT is setup, I try to access the internet with one of the hosts
(setting the primary DNS as the win 200 serv) and it is obvious that it
cannot resolve the domain name but there is internet connection (i can ping
any ip but not domain). I then change the primary DNS to be the one provided
by ISP, i can surf the net but i cannot logging into the active directory.

Is it possible to make them working together?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Make sure your Windows 2000 DNS is not the root zone for the internet ".",
if zo remove it. This was the default on Windows 2000 DNS.

Then your root hints in DNS will work, if not enbale forwarders and add your
ISP DNS Server(s) as forwarders ...

Cheers

For Active Directory to work properly, the client machines need to use
your local DNS server. For your local DNS to be able to resolve "foreign"
URLs, set it up to forward to a public DNS service (such as your ISP). As
"workinghard" said, you will need to remove the dot at the top of your DNS
tree if it is there. Forwarding won't work until you do.
