Who can I contact? - Incompatible Product

I've just checked a mates line to see if he can get BB, but it says:
"Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
However, there appears to an incompatible product or device on your line
that must be removed before an xDSL service can be provisioned."

Is there anyone I can email or call to get this removed so he can get xDSL?

The exchange is Slough.

Depends on what is in use - in the past RedCare (alarms) were incompatible,
but that seems to have changed, but might need some mods...

If there are multiple lines with the same number, it's more complicated,
but primarily a marketing decision. If there's fibre (TPON) to his part
of town, then that's another possibility. DACS (line sharing) devices
should be removed by the engineers if an order is placed, but you may
need to work out which of these things is the actual problem for him
first. There used to be a list of "incompatible products" on some
ISP website, and I'll see if I can spot the URL/post a list...

Which line checker did you use? The BT site usually gives more details
about the incompatibility - for example if it's DACS or ISDN it will say so.

Your mate can place an order anyway. if its DACS then it can be removed by
the engineers as part of the install. If it is something else that requires
his attention then they will inform him prior to activation.
Does he currently have an ISDN line? That is incompatible too.
My advice to him is to place the order and see how it goes.

The house is over 50 years old and there has never been any kind of
broadband/ISDN on it at all..

I guess that BT will need to replace the telephone line.

That would not necessarily preclude ADSL being provided. Suggestions made
in other posts are all sound. Could be there is a DACS or something else on
the line.

Why do you doubt it? Its a very common thing to have dacs on lines.

No, the website is saying their is an incompatiable product on the line
the age of the BT wiring has nothing to do with it.

Call BT CS on 0800 800 829, and see what products are listed against the
phone line.

Ted.
