Hi

Can anyone tell me how to check that a Win98/ME PC is fitted with networking
hardware and working?

I know how to do this in XP - by clicking on task manager and going to the
network tab. Easy!

Does 98 or ME have something similar? Its been a while since Ive used it.

I'm asking on behalf of a friends who wants to get networked at home. They
live some distance away so I cant jsut pop over to have a look. As they are
PC novices and very non tech asking them to see if their PC has an ethernet
socket is not as easy as you would think. So its easier for me to find out
if I can check this by investigating the hardware devices via Control panel
or device manager? I can talk her through it over the phone.

Thanks for any info.

Ian

look in control panel for 'network adapters' ...if there is one (with no
errors) then the machine is capable of accepting a network connection

Still oops! You missed Device Manager. Although the OP mentioned DM, some may
not know which of the 4 tabs to select.
