Hi all,

I am configuring a network and need to change the ip address all the time on
a test-laptop requiring me to reboot it endlessly. Is there a way to change
the ip address of a network card without having to reboot the system?

thanks,

BN

Not in Windows 98 or Windows Me, sorry.

AFAICT, the NIC's fixed IP address will be written to the "IPAddress"
parameter at the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\NetTrans\000n

Unfortunately, after modifying the address I was unable to make
Winipcfg see the new one. It appears that the NIC retains the address
that is found in the registry at bootup. :-(

Perhaps you could make the changes less tedious by automating them
with a simple batch routine that allows you to input the new IP
address, update the registry, and then reboot. Post back here if you
would like help with this, or try asking the experts at
alt.msdos.batch.
