Can a callsign number be transferred to a main number?

Some time ago, I added callsign to my BT package, and was considering (at
some point) getting BT to make our callsign number the main number, ie
dumping the main number and just using the callsign number only. (This
would allowed everyone I know to get used to using the new number before I
dumped the old one, a sort of change-over period where both numbers would
have been available. When I called BT and asked about doing this, they
reckoned I couldn't do it, as a callsign number was not able to be used as a
main number. I thought this rather strange but just accepted it. Anyone
know why it couldn't be done, or did I just get someone who didn't know
their job when I called?

I don't want to do it anymore, as I have now dumped BT callsign, and have
just kept the old number, but I would have liked to have done it the way
stated above, had the choice been possible.

Anyone know why I was not able to do it?

Sorry, wrong group but you might as well reply if you know the answer.

I wanted something similar and expected to pay a hefty renumber fee to swap
main with CS. I read in u.t. that the CS numbers are in "pool" of numbers
(presumably there might be some difficulty in obtaining one if the allocated
"CS" numbers had all been used up within a 10,000 number group, and one may
have to wait for someone to cancel one for another to go to CS. Peter M.

Keep calling until you get a co-operative tubby.
