Network specs:

Linksys WRT54G wired to 3 computers
uplinked to a Linksys 10/100switch (hard wired 2 computers)
WAP-11 connected to the 10/100 switch
also a Linksys WPS print server.

RoadRunner cable

Occasional use of various wireless laptops.
OS are XP, Win98, and WinMe

Wireless is running great.

THE PROBLEM:
For the last 4 Wednesdays like clockwork between 10:15am and 11:15am, I
lose the data signal to my PCX-2600 cable modem. I don't lose the signal to
my television. Just the data signal to my cable modem. I changed the
modem, and no difference. I called tech support and they never heard of
this.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Craig

You can lose one of the signals and still have the other. I have seen both
cases, one where cable goes out, but I still have internet connectivity. And
the more frequent where the internet cable modem shows no signal, yet cable
tv is fine.
If you cable modem shows no signal, try the following.

1) Do you have a splitter on the incoming cable, so you can have one
connection going to the tv, and the other going to your internet cable
modem. If you do, try swapping the connections. (doubt if this will help,
but I have seen splitters go bad).

2) Call your isp if you are home when it happens, and mention it happens
everyday.

Fist, you should already know the name or IP number of your mail
server, which I assume is provided by the cable company's ISP.

On your XP or w2k machine, next Tuesday (or whatever)
do

pathping <the addr of your mail server>

This command takes about 5 minutes to complete. Save the text
that this test produces.

On Wednesday morning start a ping -n 999999 <address of your mail server>

Do this in some way such that you can save the text when
it craps out.

As soon as your connection craps out do the pathping as shoen
above. Save the text.

Compare the pathping text the before and after tests. Depending on
what the diffs are you need to do different things. If the connection
is lost right at your router (pathping will show this) then post the
test results here and we can take a look.

You can now call tech support and say "I can't read my email."
This puts the ball in their court since it's their server
and network. Play dumb about your tests for a while but at some
point you can offer you email them your test results.

Before doing all this make sure the date/time settings
on your PC so that you can compare timestamps with other people.
