Hi all

I am not sure if this hardware exists.

But I am looking for something to plug up to my cable modem.

At the moment, the cable modem is plugged using a RJ45 connection into my
Desktop PC...

The Desktop PC has a Wireless LAN connection to my other PCs

However, I would like to buy a piece of hardware, which connects directly to
my cable modem.

So that even if the main Desktop PC is off, or is reset... the other PCs
internet feed is not interrupted

What do I need?

Thanks

Hello,

IMHO you need a router to do this.

A wired/wireless AP (Access Point) router that Linksys, Netgear, D-link,
Belkin and many other manufactures make. The choice is yours to make.

You want a wireless access point or router like the Linksys WRT54G router.
Your cable modem plugs into the router. Then your PCs need to be equipped with
a wireless network card. No one PC has to be on for the others to share your
Internet connection. You just leave on the modem and the router.

I used the Linksys WRT54G - took a staggering 3 minutes to configure and set
up. Got one PC directly connected and the other 3 on wireless! Using the
WRT54G as a DHCP server.
