Cable modem activity light on solid even when pc off

I have a cable modem and a wireless router hooked up to my desktop. I have
another pc upstairs using the wireless connection. The modem is a Moto
Surfboard. The activity light on the modem in the past has always either
flickered when there was internet activity either through the main desktop
or the wireless dekstop. All other times the activity light was out/off.
For the past several days the activity light is on solidly 24 hours each
day. Even when the main desktop and the wireless desktop are shut off.

The only way I can get the activity light to be off is to unplug the wire
coming into the router from the cable modem.

My internet access is still usable albeit a bit slower. Is the activity
light or internal workings for it in the modem bad? Could it mean that
someone is hijacking my conenction from outside? Is there a way (program)
to measure internet activity through the modem both inbound and outbound?

The only time I've ever seen the light solidly on before was when my kid
conencted his xbox to the router and played Halo - which effectively killed
internet access from my desktop.

Any ideas?

Have the same setup as you same thing as what you describe from reading the
router logs I do not see any other connections but as you say even with both
the desktop off & the laptop off light on modem stays light all the time the
service is cablevision in NY

Check your router setup and see if the DHCP server is handing out more then
two addressses.

I've been noticing the solid Cable Activity light for several days also. I
am using CableVision of CT. I spoke to CV and they said they didn't know
anything about a change in their operation. In the past, even during worm
attacks the Cable Activity light was not on solid that I can remember.

My Motorola SB 4100 and 5100 always have the light flickering 24*7.
My router is always on. It doesn't matter if there is any network activity
on the LAN side of the router or not. This happens even if I "release" the
IP address from the router.
