Cable Junction Question

I'm a total newbie who wants to run a CAT6 (solid core) cable from my
attic room to the lounge two floors below, and would like, if possible,
to put outlets in a couple of rooms in between.

Is there a way I can do that with just one cable? I get the impression
that if I'm to maintain a star topology, that's not possible with UTP
and I'll need to run a cable to each room from a hub/switch.

If so then I think I'm going to have to buy some ducting as it'll get
messy otherwise. Am I right?

I think you can run two connections along one cable..... (not sure)

Alternatively....

....
....
second floor: Hub2
- cable up to next floor
First floor: Hub1
- cable up to next floor
Ground floor: Router I assume

You simply connect router to hub1, hub1 to all PCs on floor and hub2. .......
Although this will require several hubs - You can pick them up for next to
nothing on eBay these days!!

Also (although I assume you have a motive....) you could just use CAT5? Save
yourself some money.
