Cable Internet Provider Limits 5 Unique Address Connections

My cable provider only allows inbound connections from 5 unique IP
addresses. I sometimes ssh into my Linux box remotely, and find this very
limiting.

I also like to occasionally post my kids' pictures on a webserver for other
friends to see.

Are there any "creative" ways around this, or do I need to take it up with
my ISP (Cox)? I have a Linksys router between my home LAN and the cable
modem.

Get a free web site somewhere like Geocities or Tripod (yeah, they have
pop-up ads, but you have Mozilla or Firefox).

It seems unlikely that people using 5 different IP addresses would be looking
at your web pages at the same time.

Do you know how they are doing this? Do you have to predesignate the addresses
that work? Do they check for TCP SYN packets and only let so many through
with unique IP addresses in a time window? Do that actually track active
TCP connections? Do your terms of use specify this limitation?

If they are tracking connections you might be able to fool them when connecting
using ssh by sending TCP RST packets that get filtered on you home machine
without losing the TCP connection.

You might want to consider getting service from an ISP that doesn't do this
kind of thing to you. You will probably need to pay a little more, but there
are places that allow residential users to run servers. Speakeasy is one
such company, though the switch to DSL may result in a significant drop
in your download bandwidth unless you are will to pay significantly more.
Another option would be to switch to business service with your current
cable provider.

If this is clearly stated in your T&C the only thing you can do is to
switch contract or ISP. I'd switch ISP.
