Bypassing proxy

Our company was recently purchased. Now all of our internet is filtered
through a proxy by them. Also they have other restrictions in place (no vpn
connections or no VNC). I used the vnc to help our remote users when they
were outside of our network and also vpn from time to time to grab some
files from a home computer for troubleshooting. I have put a request in
(twice) with the new company's IT to have an exception for these items
however they havent responded. Honestly I think they like the idea of
controlling all of these sites now (kinda of sitting back laughing). My
question is how do they restrict these? Do they just allow certain ports? Is
there a way to bypass it? Thanks for the help.

I guess that they use firewalls to restrict access to certain (most)
services.

I wouldn't recommend trying to bypass these restrictions. In some companies
this could be reason enough for job termination. Check if they have written
policy about this and how they work.
My advice would be to talk reasonably with IT to find a good solution that
would fit everyone.

No. It isn't that simple. Proxys have greater capabilities than typical
NAT-Based Firewalls. They can block based on the user account, the URL,
keywords in the URL, the IP of the machine the user is sitting at,....and
any combination of the above all at the same time.

No. It would require that there would be an alternate Device available
(another NAT Firewall, another Proxy, whatever) to provide the Internet
connection to you.

I have to post under CDO to the newsgroup. I cant even connect to ms news
server anymore. I have took the proper steps to place a request but gotten no
response. They seem to be ignoring the request. It's not only my location but
other sites also. "Lords of access now".

Those things may not be decided by the Proxy Server Admins
themselves,...they have bosses too. If they are ordered to have something a
certian way,..then that is the way it will be no matter what anybody else
thinks.
