BULLDOG now cold calling for new customers

Being on the preferred register to stop unsolicited phone calls, I was
rather suprised to receive a phone call from a sales droid at Bulldog
this evening telling me how wonderful their services are.

This is especially suprising, since I am already (unfortunately) a
customer and have attempted to upgrade my connection since March this
year. It is abundantly clear they are a complete shambles and are
unable or unwilling to fullfil their commitments.

Last month, they took £80 out of my credit card account and despite
emails and phone calls have not come back yet.

Also, when I signed up, I had 2 months free on the end of the year
contract. I (finally) managed to speak to someone and they claim they
have no record of any such deal and I would be expected to continue to
pay £40 per month for a 2MB line. This despite the price being lowered
to £30 and my emails regarding this, similarly being ignored.

I was still thinking of continuing with them if they could sort this
out to my satisfaction, but since they dont seem interested, clearly
they are not worthy of my custom. Problem is getting a MAC code, when
you cant speak to anyone or get emails answered.

The guy I was speaking to this evening, simply hung up when I started
talking about the problems. I think that sums up their approach very
nicely.

Can anyone offer any advice on how to tackle this situation? I believe
my year is finally up on 12th August - and that is the day I want to
rid myself of this untrustworthy theiving company.

I think the first thing I would do is contact my credit card company and STOP
all payments. That will shake them up a bit and maybe you might get a proper
response from them.

Good luck

This is impossible with a continual debiting authority on a credit
card. One must get the company to stop taking payments.

If only it were that easy. If you have given continuous authority, which is
what you do with credit cards (as opposed to direct debit) then only the
company taking the money from your card can stop this.

Don't ever sign up to regular payments from your credit card, always use
direct debit, which you can cancel.

Then tell the credit card company that the card has been stolen/lost.
They will stop the card and issue a new number.

That's the idea but in practice credit card companies will always
cancel a card when requested to do so. Then the discussions get a bit
hot!

Andrews and Arnold are a "no bullshit" ISP who have got their heads screwed
on, have friendly, personable and competent staff and are very much a
professional outfit.

If you don't mind paying a bit extra per month than the cheapy ISPs then
you ought to think about using them. No silly "contracts" either, or
charging for extra fixed IPs etc.

Their ADSL service is metered weekdays 8am-8pm[1] but their lowest package
being 3GB/month has never got close to being filled by me and I work from
home so use the net a lot. :-)
You can also check your usage down to the nearest hour, have SMS-alerted,
graphed line monitoring to help track down problems and even talk to the
staff on IRC.

But if they continue to take the money after you have requested the
provided service to cease (subject to minimum contract periods and
notice etc), are they not committing fraud?

Hurah!

Finally, I have received a response from them. They have confirmed the
2 months free - but have said I may have missed the billing cycle and
end up not getting it until month 14 instead of 13. Annoying, since I
intend on leaving to get a decent service after this, so I'll have yet
another month wait on 2MB vice 8MB. No doubt also, I will be charged
£40 for this instead of the correct £30.

I'm please Ive finally got a reply, but it hasnt changed my opinion on
Bulldog in any way.
