Buffalo WBR-G54 to WLA-G54 problems

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a WBR-G54 and WLA-G54 to enable WDS.

On the ground floor I have a WBR-G54 connected to NTL broadband, a laptop
and an XBox (wired connections)

On the second floor I have a number of PCs with wired attachments to a
WLA-G54.

I currently have a long patch cable daisy-chaining the two together so I
can configure each via the browser interface.

There are no PCs with WIFI connections (yet). I just need the two devices
to bridge so that I can get transparent access to the broadband connection.

1) I've tried both unsecure and secure WEP settings.

2) I've double-checked that they have reciprocal MAC address entries.

3) I've checked that the other settings such as burst-mode are
identically set (where there seem to be common settings)

4) I've upgraded with the latest version of firmware from the Buffalo
site (only the WBR-G54 seemed to require this)

So far, as soon as I pull the wire theres no connection between the two.

Can anyone offer any suggestions before I sling them both in the bin (its
been a long evening )

Sean

Turns out that forcing both routers down to 11b cured it. It may be just
signal strength, but if so, the range is pretty poor
