So.
All the customer-facing engineers that run round in vans drinking tea
and going down muddy holes get spun off into 'Openreach'.
Does this include operation of the exchange network?
Where does it stop?
Does Bulldog (for ex) now call OR to setup a new line, which then gets
installed in the exchange by a BT engineer, and wired over to the Bulldog
LLU kit?

Or does OR do all the customer wiring in the exchanges and network, with
BT being left only operating the exchanges and high speed data network?
Or is it OR to the cabinet, and BT back from there?

Who knows.....What will happen is the same people will do the same jobs
(the same way) & just drive around wearing different 'image wear' &
having a different livery on their vehicle..

Oh I forgot, calling it a broadband unit is a misnomer as it will cover
all services, PSTN, ISDN, Private Wires etc, as well as broadband, in
fact most of the engineers out in the field won't be dealing with
Broadband problems at all (in fact it will be just the same as it is
now)...

No doubt BT will blow a few million changing the image.

Don't remind me ;-(

It really is a pity that they would rather blow the money on such things
when they can't see their way to equip the engineers with vehicles fit
for purpose (a transit panel van may be adequate for a CAL engineer, it
isn't for a CAL/UG engineer & it deffinitely isn't for a CAL/UG/Digital
(ISDN & BT Highway) & ADSL engineer & now they resorting to weekly
delivery of supplies.

200M / 25000 = 5000 per.

Going to be some mighty fine paint jobs...

At least it will get rid of the smear marks down the side of my van
where a kamikazi OAP drove at me at high speed, on a small lane, forcing
me into the hedge. Well let's face it I didn't have any business to be
in his way ;-)

There's more (and less) to it than that.

The new Access Services division (now known as Openreach) is primarily
only running the copper and fibre in the ground.

However most existing BT *services* (e.g. ADSL, analogue or ISDN
telephony services, full leased lines etc) run using those wires will
still be run by BT Wholesale.

But will be maintained & serviced by OpenReach. Anything using the
'Local Loop' will be maintained & serviced by OpenReach, in fact nothing
will change except for the labelling.
