Just had my cease date confirmed from BT as the 24th November when I'm
moving my broadband to Pipex (then changing to their 1mb service)

I just wondered if I will still be able to pick up my email from the
BTopenworld account after Pipex become my provider. I've got loads of
regular email that I pick up from it and use it for lots of mail order and
other places and am worried that BT might be funny about it and prevent me
accessing it because I'm moving from them!

Thanks in advance

Chris

See if you can register with BT Openworld as a pay-as-you-go dial-up
user, just to keep your email account open. Then when you get
connected via Pipex, you should be able to read emails from BTO's
POP3 server and send via Pipex's SMTP server.

Shouldn`t normally be a problem, but my own experience is of BT dialup
accounts - you just access them as normal, but can`t send mail "out"
using that account.

Thats brilliant, cheers everyone. Just wanted to make sure it wouldnt be cut
off straight away as its going to take a couple of weeks to get everything
up to date when I'm changed over to Pipex.

While you are at it now would be a good time to register your own
domain. That way you have no need to worry about this sort of problem in
the future should you choose to change ISP again.

Chris

Your BT Openworld account will be downgraded to a PAYG account so you will
still be able to either dial into BT via dial up to fully send and receive
from your BT account or you will still be able to receive BT email even if
you are logged into pipex, but as stated in a previous post you wont be able
to send from a BT address if you are logged into pipex.

I transferred from BT over a month ago now, I also took the plunge to pipex,
so far so good, seems a hell of a lot quicker than BT. (512k service BTW)

Hope this helps

Pete

BT 515k is a lot slower than it was partly due to contention ratio and
partly due the slow DNS servers.

Only a half truth here. Your mail can only be sent out through the
ISP connection you have but the address it is from can display your BT
email address and the reply to feature will hold your BT email
address. I do this all the time; it is a standard feature of
Microsoft Outlook.

If you've an engineer installed service you won't be able to change to
1Mbps. At least not not in the immediate future. If you've a self install
you should be ok.
