Does anyone have the official answer to why BTO support are not posting in
their own support newsgroup?
Since I have been with BTO their support has been lousy.

We use to have someone called Lee who was totally useless, but at least he
posted a reply every week or so.
The replies may have been waffle or wrong but at least we had some slight
contact with support.

Of recent there was a David and a Duncan I think their names were. They
promised to keep a presence in the group but have not been seen in ages.

Also could anyone answer these questions for me:

Can I migrate to any other ISP? As I was one of the original engineer
installs.
What ISP actually cares about their customers by offering decent support in
newsgroups, email and phone?
Will I be able to upgrade to a faster service without any problems or
downtime?

The most probable reason is that they haven't got a clue how to
subscribe to a newsgroup and even if they did they wouldn't know what
one was for and even if they did they would post misleading or wrong
answers anyway. Best leave it to the people who know what they are
talking about

They've been taking lessons from NTL then have they ;-?

NTL first withdrew posting to the official support group & then they
stopped posting to the announce one as well, it later transpired that
the department didn't have any newsgroup access at all, so you now
have to log into the service page to find out why you can't log on

'BTOpenworld' and 'Support' are mutually exclusive terms!

I`m not sure if BT have some sort of charge for converting the faceplate
back to normal... I hope someone else can give you more info though

aaisp.com zen.com pipex.com plus.net - are you in a cabled up area ?

I`m happy with my pipex account, been with them since Feb and haven`t had
any need to contact them to try to get hold of someone in support.

I think i`ve had 2 small periods of down-time (never more than a couple
of hours AFAIK, didn`t work when I went to work, and did by the time I
got home)

Not too sure, but hopefully any ISP would be an improvement on "good ol`
BT"...

Indeed - from personal experience I had to explain to a "tech" *and* his
supervisor how you could tell who was hosting a website address. This was
on the 50p/min line at *my* expense...

Rather worrying that I had to explain basics - geektools did the trick
though, as it pointed the finger squarely at BT

Tech-support ? more like thick-support...

There should eventually be a knock on the door from some one to
collect the modem (so don't throw it away) but as for collecting the
face plate as well, not unless they change procedures...
