BT2700HGV - Pinging Public Addresses

Hi there,

Just wondered if anyone could give me some help with this.

I'm a BT Broadband customer, using a BT2700HGV modem router.
I have a block of 16 static public IP addresses from BT.

My modem router picks up an internet address dynamically, and then under the
"public network" settings, I specify the router address they gave me. Then I
have a couple of machines connected to the router which use a couple of
those public IPs and they seem to work fine. I can host PPTP server, web
server, RDP, FTP on these boxes and can connect them across the internet
wuithout any problems.

But I need to be able to ping the machines across the net, and I only ever
get request timed out. On the router, under Firewall settings, I can allow
or disallow ping, but this only seems to effect my ability to ping the
internet address it picks up when it connects to the net. I can't ping any
of the static, public IPs that I'm using.

Between the two machines connected to the router, I can ping fine. And I
don't think there's a local firewall issue at play as I've had a look at all
those settings and it seems fine.

Can anyone familar with this setup, or familar with the BT2700HGV suggest
why I might not be able to ping those machines on public IPs?

Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

Rob

Go into your firewall settings for each one and put them in the DMZ
then you can ping them.

I haven't found a way of individually allowing ping per static IP apart
from the above... if it's really necessary to ping them you may have to
open the router firewall right up and rely on the firewall on the
devices themselves.

Hi there - thanks for the reply. I can live without Ping. It would have been
useful to have it (without putting the machines into the DMZPlus zone) but I
just wanted to satisfy myself that I wasn't missing something obvious.

Thanks again

Rob
