BT Yahoo PPP problem

Hello,

Since last Thursday night, almost a whole week, my BTYahoo adsl
connection has been offline. Not due to the adsl being down but no ppp
negotiation. Prior to last Thursday night everything was working okay.

I'm right on the fringe of what is considered by BT as a adsl capable
line which is helped by the use of an Origo ASR8400 router instead of
the BT supplied Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem. The router connects on
adsl almost constantly whereas the USB modem is very flaky and can't
connect 50% of the time.

I thought I had finally gotten to the bottom of it when some support
guy said my "service status" was "ceased" from 18th December but
someone from sales who I was put onto next said that was nonsense and
wasn't the problem.

BT insist the line tests okay and BT broadband insist there isn't a
broadband fault on the line or with their ppp server so the fault must
be with my equipment. However, I doubt that because I have used a
replacement (same model) router and a replacement splitter and got the
same results. When I have managed to get the USB modem to connect on
adsl, that gets a winxp dun error721 (no response from remote
computer) and fails too. The alcatel diagnostics program shows bytes
being sent trying to log on but zero bytes received hence the 721
error.

The Origo router log is as below with the last two lines repeating
every 5 minutes ad infinitum.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? I can't imagine my two
routers and usb modem all going wrong at the same time. I still think
there's some merit in following up on the "service ceased" issue.
Clearly he didn't get that from nowhere.

"Ring Microsoft" one of the other tech support people advised this
morning. I could have cried. I have got nowhere with them in a whole
week and it's taken serveral hours per day and still going.

I found out what the problem was. BT.

Although I've been happily using this dsl connection for a month
(since I moved house), BT wholesale have seen fit to disconnect the
line because it is slightly under their normal threshold of being a
sustainable adsl connection even though with the router I was using
the connection was fairly solid. It went down on average once a day
for just a few seconds. Nothing to worry about. And now I have to go
back to dialup. ((((

Of course, they didn't bother telling BT Broadband who I've been
phoning for several hours each day in an attempt to resolve the issue.
What a time waster that was.

Does anyone know if fixed WiMax will be coming to the Leeds area soon?
or maybe some other high speed solution?

Thanks

Jim.
