BT-Yahoo outages?????

Sorry, Newbie question.

I run a small peer to peer network using an old P3/500 Compaq running
smoothwall to connect to 1meg BB using a USR modem. I ran a test in the
weeks before my kids 1/2 term and the whole setup ran continuously for 21
days with no disconnects at all until I shut down for our family holiday.
When I get back - 31st Oct - the system disconnects (drops the line?) at
about 6.15 pm evry night and I have to shutdown the smoothwall machine and
reboot before anything will reconnect. The built-in smoothwall reboot
doesn't fix it - it won't connect for more than a few seconds - a very
irritating selection of bleeps etc.

Any offers for ideas/reasons?
