How close do you have to be to a BT Wi-Fi HotSpot to get reception?

In the case of the Ramada hotel in Loughborough, you can stand next to
the AP and still not get an IP address, although the signal is good.

IME of the 20 or so I've used, ~100m.

There's a hotspot in the hotel opposite our old office, you could pick up
the signal in the hotel car park and in one corner of the office about 20m
from the hotel. Going to depend on location of the router and number and
type of walls.

That depends upon where the AP is located, plus the terrain as in how
wall there thickness and if there are more than one AP. My own single
AP gives me around 50yds radius, two would maybe extend that to an oval
of 200yds end to end if they are well placed.

I always wondered how Plusnet staff got on line when the rest of their
customers were out of order, now I know.

Is your surname meant to contain another letter somewhere? I only
