Hi all

My brother in law works away and asked me to fix his webcam so he could chat
with his kids on msn. But in his haste he phoned his 11yr old son to plug
his laptop into the router (bt voyager 220v adsl voice router) and see if he
could use the inbuilt cam to talk to see each other (I wouldn't mind but he
didn't even have msn installed)
..
Anyhow after trying, it wasn't working so the leads from the laptop were put
back into the PC.
Now the son said it was working and he did have access online after the
event, but now when trying to go online the pc says "no connection please
check connection" or words to that effect.

I know I could phone BT but I thought I'd ask here first as to the best
possible way I should go about rectifying this problem. I have the BT
install disc to hand if needed, but I must mention I pushed the reset button
in on the back of the unit whilst it was on to see if that had any effect,
so I thought I should mention that..."did I do a bad thing?" BTW I'm typing
this post from a different location.

TIA

Hi Jono

Where do I need to look on the pc to re-enter these specific settings; and
can you supply a link to the settings I need to use?

I apologize for the need for the idiot guide, as I don't have a router
myself and also not familiar with the proccess of setting up or
troubleshooting this kind of hardware. but I am trying to get as much info
as possible before visiting my brother in laws to try and help.

[snip]

This is because BT do not require a specific username and password to
authenticate the router - any authentication exists by virtue of the phone
line. Indeed so far as I've seen a modern BT Home Hubs has nowhere to put a
password!

So a factory reset will populate the username field with a value such as
(E-Mail Removed) and the router will then form a PPP connection OK.

That may well be true. But I meant the factory reset, which wipes away any
user configuration and restores the default settings.

It may well be true that you have to open a web browser at the router's
status page and click the "connect" button you find there. Of course, if
you installed the software that BT supply on their CD you would have to do
that every time you started the PC, then probably at 20 minute intervals
thereafter ....

All very good reasons not to use BT as your ISP ....
