BT Voyager 200 Router & IE Config

Hi All,

I'm trying to diagnose my sister-in-law's web browsing problems at a
distance.

She has BT Broadband with a Voyager 200 router connected to the PC via USB.
The router must be working because she can speak to me from her PC using
Skype VOIP. However, IE will not go to any web page, returning "cannot
connect" messages. How should IE be configured when using the Voyager 200?
There's nothing in the "Dial-up & VPN box", and nothing in the "LAN
settings" box. They've had BB for about a month, and I'm told: "It's never
been right, and BT's support is bloody useless!"

If I can get this sorted she'll think I'm wonderful!

Any help most gratefully received.

Regards,

Rob.

Connections set to "never dial a connection" (Tools Internet Options)

no proxy under the LAN settings button

can she access a web site by putting an IP in the address box e.g.
212.58.224.88

I would install Firefox in case IE has been screwed by spyware or
something, my IE6 didin't work for a couple of months until the MS
Anti-spyware caught up with it.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. All grist to the mill. Don't know about putting the
IP address in, will get her to try it, and to check the connections/LAN
settings. Will try Firefox too as I have it on disc.

Thanks.

I found it!

After deciding that everything was set-up correctly, I loaded Spybot Search
& Destroy and did a scan... Oh dear! There was a screen full of red
nasties. Anyway, got rid of them and all is now ok. Seems teenage daughter
had downloaded some dodgy software. They now have Spybot, Ad-Aware and
Microsoft Anti-Spy on board.

Rob.
