BT Softphone problems

I've recently started using BT's Softphone - when it's working it's
brilliant, letting me use a UK geographic number while outwith the UK.
But the service has been unavailable for the past three days. I had a
similar problem a week or two ago, which corrected itself after a few hours.
When I bring up the keypad, the message there alternates between "We are
sorry, the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
and "There are no SIP accounts enabled, you cannot make a call."

Is this a known problem? Is there anything I can do to correct it?

I am not sure what this "BT" service is that you are using.
There are several services that give you a free UK geo
number, Sipgate, Orbtalk, Tesco Internet Phone to name three,
you can use all of them with a generic softphone like X-Lite.
I would recommend Sipgate for reliability and features, there is
a branded version of the X-Lite softphone on their site too.
You will probably need to sign up from a UK IP address though,
or use a UK proxy.

This what I'm using -
<http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=25511>
(although I suspect you knew that!)
I use the same phone number for it as I do when at home, and any
chargeable calls are on my BT bill. When it's working, I can also
access my Answerphone, which I find very useful.

My guess is there are some server/registration errors with the service.
These may be very convenient for BT given that if the VoIP services
fails, they get the full cost of the call from the landline instead ;-)

Personally if this continues to happen, I would find another ITSP ;-)
