Openzone brags about its 11M connection speed - but what is the true
bandwidth that can be achieved. Tried one of their hotspots yesterday
and got a measily 6K bandwidth - like watching treacle drip ;-((

What's the backhaul on these boxes?

If it was me, I'd be doing it over either ADSL (to boxes that it worked
in) or ISDN2, for those out of area.

If ISDN2, then if the phonebox is in use, the bandwidth would be 8K/sec
back to base.

I was hoping someone would popup that knew how the BT OpenZone boxes
were implemented, and could give some idea of the minimum likely
bandwidth they have back to the main BT network.

Think he's confused.....(phoneboxes not WiFi)

11Mbps is the theoretical speed of the LAN, it depends on what it's
connected to, but at the least I would guess it's a 512k ADSL connection.

It might depend on who is really providing Openzone. The Openzone
in-a-box product, available to all is detailed here:-

http://www.shop.bt.com/invt/543210

The associated FAQ (PDF format) has much more detail.

Priced appropriately, I'd have no problem.
(say 50p/Mb, or you buy blocks of time.).
