I used to have Midband before I could get ADSL. Latency was as
reasonable as you could expect for 64/128k ISDN, I never really had
any issues with it. I can't remember where it connected into BT's
network, but I do recall that there was no significant latency
increase between there and their borders. Try a trace route from
81.187.255.126 to
www.bt.com. Note the round trip time to the BT
border, then add what you'd expect from 64k or 128k ISDN plus a couple
of milliseconds on top, and you'll not be far off.
I used to run VPN and terminal server sessions without any problems.
However, you don't get any access to SMTP servers, I had to run my own
mail server, which was rather hit and miss sometimes as some ISPs
(most notably AOL) would deny connections from dial-up IP blocks. As
for Usenet access - forget it.
No static IP.
I don't recall any ports being blocked, but that was over a year ago.
Things may have changed.
