Probably because prior to master sockets, this was where the BT external
cable entered the house (from overhead?) and when Gippiejoe had to fit a
master socket, he just lazily put it there instead of cabling the
external cable to a asensible place.
This would of course have meant moving all the extension cables as well
to teh new position and there probably weren't enough chokkie biscuits
available!
