Hi Group,
After having problems with my ADSL since it was installed a week ago
(basically no phone dial tone and an engaged signal for anyone trying to
phone me when the ADSL is connected) BT have advised me there is a fault on
the line somewhere between my house and the exchange (or at either place).
Theres an engineer coming out on Friday.

What the chance of them fixing it? Do they have to or can they just say that
I can no longer recieve ADSL?

I havent a clue.

Thanks
Dave

Have you proved its not a faulty modem/phone/filter at all.??
Have you tried a known working phone in the NTE with the front plate
removed ?

Hi Steven

tried everyhting, 5 different filters, different phone sockets, different
modems - BT have confirmed that there is a fault on the line - they just
wont know what it is untill they can have a look on friday

Go back a bit, you only get no dial tone (& others get engaged tone)
when your DSL is connected.

If this is so then it's almost certainly down to your equipment,
either filters or, & more probably, your modem/router or whatever.....

Yes if tested, when faulty equipment is attached, it would test
faulty......

Suggest you rethink & repost either with a better description or with
more salient facts.

By the way if it is your eqipment then it will cost you....

I think the going rate is £55 for a call out, at the moment.

Odds are they'll spot the problem and fix it. Don't worry about the
other possibility unless/until it happens. My first line had wires-
only ADSL enabled in January 2002 and there was a problem (they later
said it was because I have Caller Display on the line), I could ring
out, but incoming calls got a half-ring and then "there is a fault".

My line was enabled on a Friday; Saturday I detected the fault (no
calls got to me) and reported it. They were expecting to fix it on
the Tuesday, but didn't, so they diverted calls to another landline,
when I rang to ask about the status, and it was another week until
the line was working 100%. Don't forget, once it is working, to
ring them and ask about compensation. It is less generous now
(I got about 7 months rental as credit to a/c) but if you don't
ask, you might not find anything automatically credited. Peter.
