Ok, I ditched my Cable feed with Teleworst, so I'm about to sign up with
either BT or Demon Internet for broad band.

Quick straw poll, out of those two, who do you love, hate ?

Installation horror stories, service disappearing ? Or is that just
Teleworst ? :-)

I have been with Demon broadband for one year. Apart from a few minor
hiccups, no problems.

Been with Demon since Christmas 1994, both dial up and ADSL.

Service is good, Help Desk OK and generally know what they are doing
(not as good as before Thus bought it).

The main problem seems to be with their Finance department. Seen many
complaints, but not a problem for me.

No problems at all with Demon. Never needed help desk or finance dept
so can`t comment on those.Consistent speeds, no broken connections.
Just turn pc & router on and go online when I need to works first time.

Thanks for that. I've had a Demon dial up since the mid 90's, so as
no one has said "avoid like the plague," I'll sign up to their ADSL
service.

You'll probably find those who would suggest going elsewhere popping
into uk.net.providers.aaisp instead :-) Peter M.

Avoid like the plague.

The service is fine until you have a problem or try to leave. That's
when the problems start. They couldn't fix my problem ("Demon: It's
BT's problem, BT: Your ISP needs to fix this, Demon: No BT need to fix
it."). So I left, they were still extracting cash from my credit card
4 months later, even though I had a Zen account on my line.

Zen seem very good so far.

Only go with BT if you are fluent in Hindi or Urdi so you can communicate
with the sales and support staff.

I've been with Demon for simply eons, for dial-up then broadband.
Technically, they've been excellent 99.999% of the time. My router typically
stays connected at 2Mb for months at a time. Having infinite email addresses
is handy, as I give a different one to each organisation I deal with - and
hence trace who gives out the address for spam!
BUT, as other posters have suggested, their accounts department really is
nothing short of legendary, particularly if you want to leave!
