Hi,

Unfortunately ADSL is not compatible with an incoming calls only line so
you wouldn't be able to have both these services on the line at the same
time.

No it's not incompatible. It's just BT wouldn't let you have BB on any cheap
rental line !

Martin

To wander OT.....since all that is required for DSL is a copper pair.... Why
do BT demand a line as well????

OK i guess the answers obvious £££.... But has anyone put any pressure on BT
for a change?...

Its possible for an ISP to provide xDSL services without an associated voice
line.

However, the "wholesale "voice line" rental still has to be paid, as that
covers the maintenance of the "local loop" - as the current xDSL charge
itself doesn't include that.

Its cheaper/simplier for the ISP's to just let their customers pay the BT
line rental... unless the xDSL service is something like SDSL which needs
the "voice" frequencies for data.

Regards
Sunil

Well whose going to pay for the usage of cable capacity (a finite resource)
& even more importantly who's going to firstly provide the copper pair &
then maintain it, yep that's what your line rental is all about......

It seems that CableCos do it MUCH more sensibly! You can have a Cable Modem
(from ntl: anyway) for a set price - no need for any complex tie-in to
other services - even though the maintenance of the line must figure
somewhere. BT obviously don't want people to cancel POTS and have ADSL only
so have not made this a viable possibility!
