BT Business connection and ip addresses

We tried a flashed en5861 on a bt connection and noticed that we get a
dynamic address instead of the static one assigned to us. We called bt and
were told that it is our peer ip address. How does this work?

How can i configure the flashed en5861 to use our assigned static address?
do i have to modify the autoexec file? Can someone show me how this is done?

The "bible" on uk-bug says "The first thing to do is set the router up for
NAT operation, when this is done you can connect as normal to your ISP and
you will be given the same WAN IP for your router" but this is not what
happens as i am given a peer address instead!

thanks
bart

When you say static IP, do you mean you have been assigned a block of
static IP's.
If so check the bug and set it for no-NAT operation.

If you have been given a single static IP then you need to use NAT. But
you don't actually assign the IP, it's still given to the router by the
BT DHCP servers, but it will be same every time.

knew you would reply :-) thanks.
SUPRISE - yes, we have a block of ip addresses but we are given a non static
address which is nowhere near our block and changes every 2 - 3 days!!!! I
wonder how this could be!

I'd be on the phone to BT as it seems that their DHCP servers are borked.

You should be assigned the same IP's each time, but check your setup
first, setting no-NAT is in one of the bug guides.

yep! I tend to avoid BT and hate providers who sell things people dont need.
Quite a few businesses have 5 ip addresses and they dont even need 1 static
ip but they have been sold an expensive product! This guy needs 1 static ip
address and nothing else. I really wonder how many people need more than 1
static address?

And what do they use them for?

I'd love more that one!! being able to present your public WAN IP to the
PC would be good.

Why? For an average business? Dont see the point. Seen too many public ip's
on pc's without any passwords hanging off an EN5861. and OFF COURSE NO
FIREWALL
