Hi all,

Apologies if this is common knowledge but despite considerable efforts,
I cannot get a clear answer.

I have been given a BT 2700hgv router and am about to get connected to
BT Total Broadband. Could I use the 2700hgv router with Total Broadband
or is the Total Broadband standard issue router as good/better/any
different? What are the advantages to using each?

Thanks in advance.

Mark,

Thanks for reply. I cannot be sure but it looks like my Broadband order
may not have gone through. (The first attempt to submit an online order
could not be found even though I had a confoirmation email including an
order number and the second attempt with a real life human being over
the phone is showing only as Phone Line on the BT Order Tracking).

If not BT, who would you recommend? I have only got access to BT ADSL2+.....

Cheers TNP. I'll do a bit of research now in anticipation of the order
not having gone through.....

If you have got Sky TV, have you considered their broadband offerings,
as you could do a lot worse!

I have been with them for a while now, and apart from 2 short outages I
have never had any major problems...

I do have Sky but my exchange is not LLU'd by Sky/Easynet so I can only
get their BT Wholesale based product which is expensive for what it is.

I think BT are actually quite expensive for what you get. Don't be
fooled by introductory offers - the full price is often quite a lot more.

Most decent ISPs will be cheaper and good ISPs will be about the same. I
can't think of a good reason go with BT.

I left BT for Plusnet for two reasons:
1. BT are more expensive for what you get
2. Their awful customer service operation in India is abysmal.

I would always go for good quality at a reasonable price, and a customer
service operation based in the UK. Of course, there are ISPs other than
Plusnet that meet that standard, Zen for one.

Remember, whichever ISP you choose, the performance will be the same
(assuming ADSL is provided over BT wires). The main variables will be
price and the standard of service you get when something goes wrong - as
it undoubtedly will.

Not quite true - the performance over the BT Wholesale network may be
the same, but it's a different game once BT hand it over their wholesale
network to the retail ISP - then it's up to the ISP to control the data
as they carry it over their network and onwards to the global Internet...

Some are better than others at this. (And remember that BT Retail is just
once of the 150+ ISPs who plumb into the BT Wholesale network)

Entanet and I think AAISP were offering trials to it. (Enta were inviting
resellers with customers on the Bradwell Abbey and Higham Park exchanges
to trial the service - but they wanted names by today)

Thanks all for your replies. In response to Scott, my exchange is in
the process of being upgraded at present and I would be interested in
Infinity when it comes onstream. I am also interested in getting BT
Vision hence the draw towards BT Broadband.

I had BT Broadband before and while the product was fine, the customer
services and support was absolutely appalling so I have a degree of
trepidation about returning. However I am trying to quit Sky (sounds
like smoking or something!) and BTVision seems appealing.
