According BT's site, BT Broadband option 3 still has an upload speed of
256Kbits/31KBytes yet a friend who recently upgraded (from 2.2 Mbits)
says he gets around 45Kbytes upload and his router states that his
upload stream is far, far higher than 256Kbits.

Furthermore a letter from BT informed me that Option 3 has no usage
limit (as of 1st December), yet the site still proclaims that it has a
40GB monthly usage limit. I assume the letter is correct, seems more
reliable than their site's info.

So does any BT Broadband package have an upload stream higher than
256Kbits?

presumably their documentation (a URL to find what you're seeing would be
handy) just hasn't been updated since the addition of DSL Max and since a
number of users are perhaps still on 500/1000/2000 then the higher speeds
that might be obtained won't be true anyway. As for what the router will
show - that's the sync speed for the link from home to exchange. When I
had a Tiscali-supplied 1000 kbps connection, the downstream speed was
2272 kbps (but data rate was capped to give me 1 Mbps, not 2 Mbps).

So what 'extra' does someone on Option 4 get ? (Sorry, must get to bed
so not going to get diverted to check on that right now) :-)

all of the "up to 8M" BT Total Broadband packages have an upstream
sync speed of "up to 448k" which in practice *is* 448k on the majority
of lines.
