[Repost to tidy up etc]

A friend has a BT Broadband package with a Intelligent Gateway 1800.

Can the connection be set up manually?

Windows XP mainly, but a couple of PCs with ME. General instructions
should suffice, I really just need to know what has to be configured.

AIUI the BT IG 1800 is a 4 port router/modem/WAP

The ports will be 10baseT

You have 10base2 cabling. You will need a transceiver between your
existing cable and the router.

I presume that each machine has an IP address? What range are you using?

The LAN port of the router will have a private range address too, what is
it ?

Can you attach a pc directly to the router to configure it ?

Just bought a combo hub.

You will need to make sure that the router is on the same subnet if you
want everything to work seamlessly.

Time to RTFM then. I've no idea what they default to, and I've never
configured one, so I wouldn't like to guess !!!

My question was how to configure the connection, not the router.

You just need a userid. The userid is anything you like as long as it in
ends @btbroadband.com and the password can be left blank as its not needed.
