Hi,

Sorry if this question has been asked before but don`t see it in current
posts.

BT say that the basic £17.99 package can only be used for 1 PC. Is this
true? How can they control how many PCs I have connected to a router? I
only want to connect 2 PCs using a wireless router but the 1GB cap is more
than ample for our use so I don`t see the point paying £24.99 for the extra
14GB.

Do they do something stop people using more than 1 PC like this?

Thanks.

Des.

No.

They can't.

No.

Its also worth pointing out that there are other ISP's which offer capped
services for around the same price point as BT - some like BT also put in
free activation/USB modem (though it doesn't sound like you need a USB modem
anyway) so shop around unless you specifically want to go with BT for some
reason

Sunil

I think it will be useable on 2 PC's just not reccomended, as you will
go over the 1GB very easy.

www.solo.pipex.com is good

they supply a free USB modem which is only suitable for one PC, and
they won't support any questions about networking (and maybe not about
routers).

The circuit provided is the same as any other, not least because they
are mostly provided by BT Wholesale.

You`re not stuck to using BT unless you`re in some sort of rare tie-in
contract - I pay £23.44 a month and have no cap at all, as well as full
email etc with Pipex.

Check out www.adslguide.org for some more options - BT are generally
regarded as one of the "crappier" providers.

although I think this is mainly a result of prejudice rather than a
comment on quality of service. Many seem happy with them, even though
in some cases they only went that way because it avoided a penalty on
a Home highway converison.

The ping times are said to be particularly good.

I was around when they lied about port blocking until confronted with
lots of evidence via the computer press... I was on dialup with them at
the time, and know from their own support groups that their mail service
on broadband was no better than the dialup platform - down about 40% of
the time.

Of course you would be taking about be BT Yahoo.. BT Broadband doesn't offer
dialup, newsgroups or its own mail service!

They've taken away the links to the mail/news services of Clara.net and
Plus.Net now, I see, but while they offer lower cost conversion for any
Highway users, the fact their service is 'cut down' doesn't reflect for
users in a 'cut down' fee each month... Presumably a managed conversion
to some other ISP makes a hole in 110 pounds which people dislike, when
they will probably pay some 60-70 quid in monthly fees over the cost of
some other ISPs they could use. Service is not, however, something the
users complain about, from what I've seen, so one redeeming feature!
